Caroline Schofield

Artist Caroline Schofield worked with two secondary schools in Co Waterford - Meánscoil San Nioclás, An Rinn and Coláiste Chathail Naofa, Dungarvan - on a project taking its inspiration from the historic gardens at Lismore Castle and exploring ideas around the purpose of a garden. Pupils considered ideas about gardening and shared social spaces through a series of visual art workshops.

Students visited Lismore Castle Gardens in the Spring and explored their surroundings visually by making a series of drawings, both on paper and with found materials from the Garden. These drawings inspired discussions in the class room with the artist, where ideas for the final three dimensional pieces were developed and trial runs were prepared.

The original drawings of the Gardens were the basis for the two temporary sculptural pieces in the Lower Garden. The artworks were then gifted back to the schools to be placed in a location of their choosing.
