Job title: Communications and Digital Content Manager - Freelance

Accountable to: Curator / Group Marketing Director

Working with: Colleagues across Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore Estate, Careysville and the wider Devonshire Group

Purpose of post: To lead and deliver communications, digital content and audience growth for Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore Castle and Careysville, strengthening profile, engagement and commercial enquiries.

Salary / day rate: €40,000 pro rata / to be confirmed

Term: Freelance arrangement to be confirmed

About Lismore, Careysville and Lismore Castle Arts

Set in County Waterford, within Ireland’s oldest continually cultivated gardens, Lismore Castle is a place of heritage, culture and community. Lismore Castle Arts presents contemporary art across three venues and delivers exhibitions, learning, engagement and community programmes, including work with local schools and cultural partners. The Castle and its gardens also welcome private guests and visitors, while nearby Careysville House, on the River Blackwater, is known for salmon fly fishing, private stays and wellbeing retreats.

The role will support the cultural, visitor and commercial ambitions of Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore Castle and Careysville by telling compelling stories about place, heritage, contemporary art, gardens, hospitality, wellbeing and Irish culture.

Purpose of the Role

We are looking for a communications and digital content professional to lead and enliven the online, social, marketing and development presence of Lismore Castle Arts, Lismore Castle and Careysville. The role will build awareness, strengthen audience relationships, support PR and partnership development, and translate distinctive storytelling into engagement, enquiries and long-term support.

• Establish social media and digital content as primary channels for awareness, engagement and growth.
• Develop compelling, consistent and culturally resonant storytelling for local, national and international audiences.
• Increase consideration among audiences interested in contemporary art, heritage, gardens, Irish culture, food, sport, wellness.
• Convert brand storytelling and audience interest into enquiries, bookings, attendance, advocacy and support.

Main Responsibilities

Communications, Marketing and Storytelling

• Work closely with the Curator / Group Marketing Director, marketing colleagues and stakeholders across Lismore Estate, Lismore Castle Arts and Careysville to craft and communicate key stories and priorities.
• Develop, manage and deliver communications and marketing strategies in line with the Lismore Castle Arts Strategic Plan and wider Estate objectives.
• Lead and deliver a social-first content strategy that builds awareness, consideration and engagement.
• Create and oversee narrative-led content that brings to life the history, culture, gardens, contemporary art, hospitality, fishing, wellbeing and sense of place of Lismore and Careysville.
• Own tone of voice, editorial standards, brand consistency and content quality across digital channels.

Digital, Social and Content Delivery

• Plan and deliver integrated campaigns centred on social media, supported by website content, CRM, PR and print.
• Lead on creating, commissioning and managing online content, social media campaigns, photography, video and editorial assets.
• Update and improve web content in line with objectives, audience needs and tone of voice.
• Monitor audience figures across websites and social platforms, reporting insight, engagement and impact on a regular basis.
• Manage image archives and content storage in line with Estate best practice and GDPR.

Audience Growth, PR and Stakeholder Engagement

• Develop a deep understanding of priority audiences and their motivations, including cultural audiences, visitors, donors, members, partners and international travellers.
• Work with PR partners on media releases, exhibition launches, press guests and profile-building activity.
• Liaise with colleagues across the Devonshire Group to support data-led initiatives.
• Support the Curator / Director, Head of Marketing and wider team with other relevant duties as required.

Person Specification

• Proven experience in communications, marketing, social media and content strategy, ideally within arts, culture, heritage, luxury travel, hospitality or visitor experience.
• Strong understanding of audience development, modern travelling audiences and values-led storytelling.
• Exceptional copywriting, editorial judgement and visual awareness, with the ability to adapt tone for different audiences and platforms.
• Highly digitally literate, with experience managing social media communities, campaigns, analytics and direct-to-consumer digital activity.
• Strong organisational skills, flexibility and the ability to prioritise, work independently and operate confidently in a discreet environment.
• Excellent communication, networking and relationship cultivation skills, with confidence dealing with partners, donors, sponsors and stakeholders.
• Interest in contemporary art, Irish heritage, culture, gardens, travel, sport or wellness would be advantageous.
• Commercially aware, hands-on and comfortable using insight, data and reporting to improve performance.
• Familiarity with AI tools and search / generative engine optimisation would be beneficial.

Additional Information

This is a part-time, freelance role based at Lismore Castle, working with the Lismore Castle Arts team and colleagues across the Estate. The above is not an exhaustive list and duties may change according to the needs of the business.
