The Mill
28 May - 21 Aug, 2022
Virginia Overton’s work comprises installation, sculpture and photography, often beginning as a direct response to her physical presence in a particular space.
Untitled (cascade) is an installation primarily made of lacquered aluminium, which is in fact deconstructed signage from corporate buildings and banks in the USA. When these became old and were removed, they had to be roughly cut up before being discarded. As is typical in her process, Overton happened to find these aluminium parts and began reassembling them into sculptural constellations.
Overton has arranged several of these ‘cut ups’ one in front of the other, at descending heights, held up by industrial ladders and secured in place by sand bags. This composition serves as the structure for a fountain: a pump transports water from a green bucket through a hose up to the top level, and allows it to spout and trickle all the way down and up again, making for a sensory experience as you enter the gallery space.
Launch: Saturday 28 May, 3.30pm.
