Lismore Castle Arts
19 Aug - 15 Oct, 2017
In 2017, Lismore Castle Arts presented a new commission with the Nasher Sculpture Centre in Dallas, Texas. We jointly invited and commissioned Luke Fowler to create a new sound work for both locations. The work premiered in Lismore before traveling on to Nasher in 2018. The commission for Lismore will be located in Broghill’s Tower in the Upper Gardens. The commission opened on August 19th and continued until October 15th, 2017.
Luke Fowler (b. 1978, Glasgow) is an artist, filmmaker and musician based in Glasgow. His films explore the rules and forms of biographical and documentary filmmaking; traversing diverse fields from sonic experience to marginalised cultural figures.
For Lismore, he had drawn on practices of focussed listening and architectural acoustics to create a multi-channel sound installation. Using everyday objects found on site to sound spaces both inside and outside the castle. Fowler had created a composition that subtly examines the material history of the castle and its acoustic design.
The exhibition was accompanied by a leaflet with a commissioned text by Frances Morgan.
