Curated by Matthew Higgs and presented in collaboration with White Columns, New York. Shot at the Smithsonian Institute in New York, Grosse Fatigue weaves sound, film and narrative as the artist attempts to tell the story of the universe’s creation.

New York-based French artist Camille Henrot works across sculpture, drawing and video exploring global links between the construction of knowledge and its relationship to haptic experience. Recent film and video works explore the connection of the artists’ studio to the museum, the evolution of culture and systems of knowledge, drawing on anthropology and social archaeology. Grosse Fatigue (2013) is an ambitious video that attempts to tell the story of the universe’s creation from a computer desktop and using the collection of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington DC. It premiered at the 55th Venice Bienniale in 2013, where Henrot was awarded the Silver Lion.

Camille Henrot (born 1978) lives and works in New York. Recent solo exhibitions include the New Orleans Museum of Art (2013); Slought Foundation, Philadelphia (2013); Kamel Mennour, Paris (2012), Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Paris (2010). Group exhibitions include Museum Off Museum, Bielefelder Kunstverein, Bielefeld (2013); Companionable Silences, Nouvelle Vague, Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2013); Inventing the World: The Artist as Citizen, Bénin Biennial 2012, (2012); A Disagreeable Object, SculptureCenter, New York (2012); Elles, Centre Pompidou, Paris (2010). Henrot was nominated for the Prix Marcel Duchamp in 2010 and received the Silver Lion at the 55th Venice Biennale, 2013.
